Just 4km form Ban Chang centre lies the sleepy fishing village of Phala. Entering the beach via the temple, the first part of the beach is a working fishing beach. The shoreline is dotted with traditional Thai fishing vessels, and a small rocky outcrop provides a natural harbour of sorts.
The second part of the beach is shaded by tropical pines, underneath which numerous informal Thai style seafood restaurants serve up great seafood at a reasonable price.
The beach itself is clean, well maintained and the ocean is shallow for quite some distance, making it ideal for swimmers and children. If parasols and table service are your thing, at the far end of the beach you can rent a set of chairs and a table underneath a parasol (100bht). The staff at the adjacent restaurant are always more than happy to ferry food and drink to you as you while away the hours in the shade.
