Hops Addict Rayong Review

After a nice family day out at Rayong Aquarium we decided to try the newly opened Hops Addict Rayong, on the Sukumvit road. I'd noticed the place on a recent shopping trip to Passione Shopping Destination (know locally as Laem Thong), and decided it looked worth trying out. Since moving to Thailand I have not had the change to indulge in many Real Ales, so I was quite thirsty by the time we sat down. You can read my other article on Real Ale in Thailand here.

The interior of Hops Addict is small but tastefully decorated, and they have several real beers on draught, which can be somewhat of a novelty outside of the areas frequented by ex-pats. As it was a lovely, clear night, and not too humid we opted to sit outside on the deck. Sitting outside on the deck really gives and impression of the hustle and bustle of a Thai working town, there was plenty of background noise and more than a few people walking by to the nearby market. Like us, many of the customers had also shunned the air conditioned interior in order to people watch with a proper beer in hand.

Hops Addict Rayong - Food and Beverages

I believe Hops Addict is small chain with several locations throughout Thailand and the menu selection reflected that.  The menu consisted of the usual Thai dishes and a good selection of western food. We opted for the rack of pork ribs, a Cesar salad and a pizza.

The Food

Firstly, the ribs were probably the best I've had since being in Thailand, the meat fell off the bone, like proper ribs should and they were succulent and juicy. What I liked best was the choice of BBQ glaze, opting for the spicy BBQ, I wasn't disappointed.  My only criticism was that the portion was a little on the small side.

Next up, the salad, which was fresh and had plenty of crunch to it. It came with a good amount of chicken and Parmesan on top of it and the dressing was tasty.

Finally, the pizza was good, the toppings were of excellent quality and the saltiness of the ham was a good accompaniment to the pint of Erdinger Weißbier that I was sipping on at the time.

The Drinks

As soon as we sat down, the waitress brought over a selection of beer tasters for us to try. The tactic was much appreciated, and it worked, I settled on a pint of Erdinger Weißbier. At 230thb for 500ml, it wasn't the cheapest but then again anything imported here is pricey. The beer arrived cold, and tasted amazingly refreshing, which to me is a sign that they have someone there who at least knows the basics of keeping draught beer.

As well as draught beer , the bottled selection was extensive, as you can well see.

Conclusion

Hops Addict Rayong is a welcome addition to the restaurant scene in Rayong. It offers something slightly different to seafood and Leo, not that there's anything wrong with that of course. If you're like me however, and crave a bit of REAL Ale every now and again, then you'll like this place, and it's chilled out atmosphere.
